Verification and compliance

What 'verified' actually means on BuilderTrade

Not a self-declared tick box. Licences are checked against state registers, insurance certificates are held on file with expiry dates, and the badge is withdrawn the moment cover lapses.

Licences checked against state registers

Public liability & workers comp verified

SWMS and insurance expiry tracking

0% commission on awarded work — no lead fees

What we collect

The documents behind the badge

Every verified trade has these on file, with the details recorded against their profile.

Trade or contractor licence

Licence number, class, licence holder and expiry date — checked against the relevant state register (QBCC, NSW Fair Trading, VBA, WA Building Commission, SA CBS).

Public liability insurance

Certificate of currency showing insurer, policy number, cover amount and period of insurance.

Workers compensation

Certificate of currency, or a declaration where the trade is a sole operator with no workers.

Proof of completed work

Photographs of finished jobs published to the trade's profile so builders can assess workmanship.

The process

How a trade gets verified

  1. 1

    Upload once

The trade uploads their licence and insurance certificates during onboarding, or later from Account settings.

  2. 2

    We check the details

Licence numbers are checked against the state register and certificates are reviewed for currency, cover and the correct entity name.

  3. 3

    Verified status goes live

The verified badge shows on the trade's profile and beside every quote they submit. Verified trades rank above unverified in the builder's comparison.

  4. 4

    Expiries are tracked

Every document has an expiry date on file. Renewal reminders go out before cover lapses, and status changes are recorded against the profile.

Renewals

Compliance that stays current

A certificate is only useful while it's in date. Expiries are tracked and acted on.

Reminders before expiry

Trades receive email reminders in the lead-up to a licence or insurance expiry so cover never lapses quietly.

One-click re-upload

A renewal is a single upload against the existing record — no re-onboarding, no starting again.

Lapsed cover is visible

If a document expires, the verified badge is withdrawn until the new certificate is supplied. Builders see the current position, not last year's.

Builders get told

If a trade quoting on your job is approaching an expiry, you receive a compliance warning rather than finding out on site.

What it changes

Less risk, less admin, on both sides

For builders

  • Compliance confirmed before you accept a price, not after the trade is booked
  • Current verification status shown on the job record while private documents stay restricted
  • Warnings when a quoting trade's cover is close to lapsing
  • Verified trades sorted to the top of your quote comparison

For trades

  • Upload your paperwork once instead of emailing it to every builder
  • Verified badge shown on every quote you submit
  • Priority ranking above unverified trades on the same job
  • Renewal reminders so your badge never lapses by accident

Verification confirms the documents a trade has supplied and their status on the relevant register at the time of checking. It does not replace your own contractual due diligence, site inductions or contract administration.

Verified trades quote first

Upload your licence and insurance once, and every builder you quote sees it beside your price.
